On Thursday (9/15) morning, I got up and got ready to go to my doctor's appointment. I slept really good the night before. Actually slept six hours straight without dreaming or waking up. At my appointment, the nurse checked my blood pressure and it was unusually high for me. Usually, my blood pressure was a normal-low. Now it was 135/90.
My doctor was in with some deliveries so I waited for him to get back to the office for an hour to see me. He got back and checked me and said that I was now 4 cm dilated and still 80% effaced. I asked him about sweeping my membranes again to induce the labor and he said that my blood pressure being high bothered him and that he would like to admit me since I'm already at a 4 and see if we can have a baby today. I was all for it!! Let's have this baby!!
So, I left the office, ran home to get my bags and Shaun and we checked in to the hospital at about 12pm. When I got there, I was sent to a Delivery Room and first thing they did was put an IV in and draw some blood. I waited for a little while for my nurse then she arrived, put monitors on my belly to track my uterus' movement and then she called my doctor.
He arrived at around 1:30p and I was already at a 6 by then. He broke my water and they started me on an Oxytocin drip at about 1:45pm.
Shaun left to go downstairs and get some lunch and when he got back at about 2:10pm I had already had 2 contractions. I told the nurse that I was ready for my epidural whenever I could get it and she called to see where the anesthesiologist was. He was with another patient, but said he'd be in to help me next. For the next little while, I was having contractions and burning up. I was so hot that Shaun was fanning me with a little brochure and that's the only way I could deal with the pain. I felt super hot for some reason.
I didn't get the epidural until almost 2:45pm. I was dying. I was having hard contractions and they were lasting for about 20-30 seconds each. I had told Shaun that I wanted to at least feel a few contractions before I got the drugs, but at that point, I was upset that I had to wait that long.
I know, what a wimp. I don't care. lol
I started to feel the epidural at about 3pm. The nurses were there to check me soon after that and they couldn't get a good read on Brentley's heart rate. They had me laying back and forth on my right and left side to see if he would move so they could read him better, but they ended up just having to put a little monitor on his head. Once they had that on, they could tell his heart rate was fine.
At about 3:45pm I told the nurse I was feeling a lot of pressure and she checked me and said that the cervix was almost at a 10 and that the head wasn't right there, but close enough. So they called my doctor and he came right over. When he arrived, I started pushing. I pushed probably 7-8 times and he was here. They were very surprised at how large he was. His face was bruised up pretty bad so when I first saw him he was purply-blue and his eyes were red.
Shaun went with the nurses to get him a bath and do his tests.
They called me while I was still in my delivery room about 20 minutes later and said that Brentley's blood glucose level was low after they checked it twice, so I agreed to give him a bottle of formula. They had to check his glucose every 8 hours after that and it was never low again. That seemed to help stabilize his blood sugar.

When I finally got down to my Mother/Baby room, Shaun and the nurses brought Brentley in to see me and he was all clean. I could not believe how blonde he was and how much hair he had. What a cutie! He immediately started to nurse and hasn't stopped eating since!
Shaun left soon after that to go get Jacob and Grandma Sharon to bring them back to see us. Jacob did really well meeting Brentley for the first time. He seemed genuinely excited and interested in him.
